BREAKING NEWS: Bush Pleas goes Unheard as Sunnis Reject Constitution

After declaring that they would send the draft to the consitituiton to parliament without Sunni approval, Shiites and Kurds received a phonecall from President Bush from his vacationing site of Crawford Texas. In it he urged the two to include the Sunnis and the three saty at the table once more. Well, the Sunnis have unanimously hammered the constitution saying that it is unjust and inadequate. And the Shiites and Kurds have went ahead and sent the draft to the parliament. Full Story

Here is the thing, do you know why the Sunnis are so up in arms against the constitution. It plans to split Iraq into three federations. The North will be given to the Kurds, the South will be given to the Shiites and the middle will be given to the Sunnis. This was never brought up had it not been "reccomended" American officials to the feldgling government. This remains one of the main reasons why Sunnis are angry at American intervention in the constitution drafting process. If we look at this from demographic perspective, it seems the only resistance given to the occupation in Iraq comes almost exclusively from Sunnis, while both Shiites and Kurds have a vested interest in having their own wealthy province. The Sunnis see this (and rightly so) as dividing their country and marginalizing those that are troublesome to the occupation. Let us not forget that is how Kuwait started, it was originally part of Iraq. Or a bigger example is the psyches-picot agreement to splinter the middle east into nation states, want to learn more?

So I am glad the Sunnis rejected the constitution, they rejected to keep their nation united, the other two are willing to sacrifice that for the sake of the best peices of the pie they will be getting. Not to mention the fact that they were both oppressed by Iraq's Baath regime and Saddam Hussein was a secular Sunni. But let us not forget it was the U.S. that gave gas to the Iraqis to gas the Kurds, supported Saddam Hussein and expanded his regime, and turned its back on the Shiite coup that led to all these mass graves. Sorry Bush, the fish just aint bitin this time!
